For tourists, St. Augustine has endless amounts of entertainment and things to do. My mission, as a Flagler College student who is here seven months out of the year, is to scope out behind the scenes event and happenings around the St. Aug/Jacksonville area that the average tourist may not know about.

Tis the Season!

As many of you may already know, this past weekend was St. Augustine's Night of Lights. I figured that seeing as how that evet is pretty much free, and hard to miss, that most people familiar with the area checked it out. Personally, I am a holiday fanatic so anything that has to do with Christmas, I'm all about. If you enjoyed the Night of Lights, then you definitely want to make sure that you kick off the Christmas season this coming weekend in Jacksonville with the Light Parade. This Saturday, November 28 you will love watching boat after boat sail down the St. Johns river adorned in thousands of lights. Each one is uniquely decorated and absolutely amazing. Once the parade is over, make sure you stick around for the fireworks display that will follow! What better way is there to welcome the holidays?

A Pirates Life for Me?

Arrrrg! The weekend marks the second annual Pirates Gathering, here, in St. Augustine. You may be asking yourself, what is a pirate gathering? The official Pirate Gathering website promises mutiny, weapon demos, a thieves market, stories and ... shanties. Before you write it off as lame, I caught a glimpse of the festival being set up in the St. Francis Field on my way to campus today, to be perfectly honest, it looks awesome. So, if you'rewilling to surrender your booty of $2 for a ticket (A-buck-an-ear) make sure you stop by! Click here for an official Pirate Gathering flier.

Keep a weathered eye on the horizon...more posts to come!

It's a bird! It's a plane! It's the Jacksonville Sea and Sky Spectacular!

If you happened to notice over the past few days, the sounds of jets flying over campus, that would be due to the Sea & Sky Spectacular that the City of Jacksonville is hosting this weekend. The Week of Valor is coming to a close this weekend but it's going out with a bang. The air show is going to be truly amazing. Even if planes don't exactly interest you, there is whole festival to enjoy, you can even test drive a Spyder Ryder! You will be amazed watching the Red Devils, a European sky diving team, jump out of a plane over the ocean and land safely on the shore. Perhaps one of the most anticipated events of the weekend is the Blue Angels, a Navy flight demonstration squadron. So come out, bring a friend and enjoy an afternoon of beautiful weather in Jax Beach!

Not Your Average Haunted House

Fall is without a doubt one of my favorite times of the year. With all the pumpkins to carve, treats to make, and tricks to play, I can't imagine sitting around bored with nothing to do. For those of you who do need an extra push off the couch, perhaps this might entice you. Warehouse 31 is without a doubt the scariest thing happening in St. Augustine right now. This isn't some old barn decorated with cardboad cut outs of cheesy vampires and ghosts with cotton spider webs stung out everywhere. The terrifying journy takes about 30 minutes so it is well worth the $16 general admission tickets. You and your friends can experience the terror from now until Halloween so Don't spend another night watching a scarey movie when you can live it!

"I would like, if I may, to take you on a strange journey."

What do Rubber gloves, rice and wax lips all have in common? This weekends Rocky Horror Street Festival of course! It's all happening tomorrow, Saturday October, 17 starting at 8 p.m. The film is being shown at mid night at the Florida Theater. If you are not familiar with Rocky Horror(like I was)you are in for a , well, weird surprise. You can expect costumes, props, and live music. Even if you just go to people watch or even if you dare dress up, make sure you are there by 11 p.m. for the costume contest. Tickets are $13 per person and well worth it. Soooo, if you are looking for something else to do other than going to Hattie's, make sure you stop by downtown Jax!
